Day 30 – “Hey Hey” by The Graves

August 8, 2011 1 comment

And if you sing along with us, better give it all you’ve got!

And with this video, we come to the end of our 30 day journey. I hope you had as much fun watching these videos as we did making them. The amount of support and talent that has come out of this project is overwhelming.

At first we had some difficulty deciding what to do for this band that’s based way out West. Eventually I came up with this. This song is quite an anthem and I figured it would be a nice way to bring all of our artists together. Please enjoy “Hey Hey” by The Graves.

Once again, I’d like to thank all the artists and filmmakers who participated in this project.

Day 3 – “Chinese Recess” by Afterquake

July 12, 2011 2 comments

In exactly one month from today I’ll be heading back to the earthquake zone in Beichuan, Sichuan to re-visit the village of Deng Jia Xiang. The children featured in this video are elementary school kids who were attending classes in a “ban fang” or metal room which was basically a couple steps below your typical Katrina FEMA-trailer. Through the generous donations of our supporters and our Sichuan Relief Mission team members, we have been able to raise enough money to build a more permanent school building for these kids. The remaining funds will go towards a scholarship fund for the middle school and high school students who must attend boarding school in a town more than 4 hours away from home.

Of course there is much left to be done in the area but it will be interesting to see the changes it has gone through in the last year and half since we last visited. If anything it’ll be great to see how these children have grown.

I’ve said this many times before but SRM is an organization that is especially close to me. It was such an honor to create this music video for Afterquake (Abigail Washburn and The Shanghai Restoration Project’s collaboration), to work with music created specifically for the region and the cause and to share some of the amazing images of the place with all of you.

This video comes as a preview of our documentary film about the incredible people we’ve met along the way. For more about the film (which we’ll be shooting for next month), visit the Sichuan Relief Mission website.

Video #29 – “All I Need” by Auzriel

You’re all I need…

FINALLY we have our last video (I know it’s “#29” but more on that later). This has certainly been our longest video in the making and one of our most ambitious videos graphics-wise.  Some of you may remember that we shot this WAY back in October. Again, this was one of our more involved shoots (over at Creek and Cave in LIC).

I’m proud to present this very sensual, beautifully layered video for Auzriel’s techno remix of “All I Need”.  With intricate graphic effects by our cinematographer John McMinn and impossibly flexible dancing by Jennifer Morel not to mention the lovely Auzriel doing what she does best, this is definitely a hot one.

Additional grip and electric: Jorge A Garza, Tito Delgado, and Spencer Shangkuan.  Makeup by Tanya Milord.  Special thanks to Linny Hall.

As for #30?  Well you’ll just have to wait and see.  We’ve got something very special coming up tomorrow so check back and as always, if you’d like to stay in the loop, join our mailing list.

Stay cool folks!

Video #21 – “Mr. Tragedy” by The Slackers

…open up your eyes, or this whole world is gonna pass you by…

Finally! It’s been a long time coming but here’s our video featuring The Slackers. One of the coolest things about this album (The Great Rocksteady Swindle) is that it was truly a team effort – each of the Slackers took a turn at writing. This video is for the kinda morbid, kinda bizarre “Mr. Tragedy” written by drummer Ara Babajian.

We shot this back in October at C-Squat. The Slackers are: Ara Babajian, Marcus Geard, Dave Hillyard, Jayson Nugent, Glen Pine, Vic Ruggiero. Cinematography by Jeff Brink, with some G&E help from Jorge Garza and Spencer Shangkaun and PA Pam Karp. The animations for this eventually became labors of love for animatorRobinson Deckert and myself.

So come with us on an adventure into the surreal with “Mr. Tragedy” and The Slackers.

Again, special thanks to Bill and co at C-Squat. Be sure to check out The Slackers upcoming shows in the next couple months.

Video #9 (Part 5, “04”) – “High Strung Mess” by Tri-State Conspiracy

And this is it. The last of our Tri-State Conspiracy live Bowery Poetry Club show mini-series. I’m sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from them soon. Stay tuned for the release of the full show on DVD in the coming months. So, here’s “High Strung Mess” (one of my personal favorites). Enjoy!
