Video #29 – “All I Need” by Auzriel

You’re all I need…

FINALLY we have our last video (I know it’s “#29” but more on that later). This has certainly been our longest video in the making and one of our most ambitious videos graphics-wise.  Some of you may remember that we shot this WAY back in October. Again, this was one of our more involved shoots (over at Creek and Cave in LIC).

I’m proud to present this very sensual, beautifully layered video for Auzriel’s techno remix of “All I Need”.  With intricate graphic effects by our cinematographer John McMinn and impossibly flexible dancing by Jennifer Morel not to mention the lovely Auzriel doing what she does best, this is definitely a hot one.

Additional grip and electric: Jorge A Garza, Tito Delgado, and Spencer Shangkuan.  Makeup by Tanya Milord.  Special thanks to Linny Hall.

As for #30?  Well you’ll just have to wait and see.  We’ve got something very special coming up tomorrow so check back and as always, if you’d like to stay in the loop, join our mailing list.

Stay cool folks!

Shooting with Melissa Lusk

Happy Halloween folks!

Well, we’re hitting up every neighborhood and every borough with these shoots!

Spent the day out in Astoria shooting a siiick dance video that literally stopped traffic for Melissa Lusk. Fiiinally got to put my plans for a slow motion/fast motion video to use. Seriously guys, this one will be a TRIP.

Super minimal crew this time around (as everyone and there brother was in DC for the Rally). Directed by Max S. Pham and shot by Praveen Elankumaran. Thanks to our lovely dancers, Kyle McCoy, Emma Koenig, David Isaacs, Rachel Bloom and of course our dancer/bassist/moral support/punny uncle, Matt roi Berger. Props to Katie Lee Hill for choreographing the routine. Apologies to all subjected to my terrible voice due to lack of playback volume. Pictures after the jump!

Genesis Be

I’m proud to announce the addition of two super talented artists/songwriters/entrepreneurs, Genesis Be and Auzriel. It’s so refreshing to see a group of young women who are taking on the music industry by doing everything themselves (writing, promotion, producing, marketing, you name it these girls are taking care of it!). I’m that much more excited to work with them as a woman working in a male dominated industry myself. (Kathryn Bigelow may have won the Oscar but half the people out there still just know her as “James Cameron’s ex”. Times are changing but sloowly).

Anyway, get ready for some really danceable and singable tunes with a lot of edginess thrown in there. Sitting down with these two who are so passionate about their work and about trying to make it on their own really reminded me just why people, myself included, come to this city to pursue their dreams.

Genesis Be’s Mississippi roots are apparent in her music but her take on the club vibe definitely has some NYC mixed in now. Her rhymes are biting and so socially conscious. When this girl has something to say, people will be sure to listen.

Classically trained in opera and hailing from Portland, Auzriel has a powerful, soulful voice that reminds you a little of Mariah, a little of M.I.A., and a lot of 90s female power groups, packaged in an updated, unexpected way.

For more on the artists, and on the other women who make up Open Sky Artworks, check out their label. Seriously. Do it.
